So as I said before we went to the zoo this past weekend. However, I left out the story of the polar bear. It was unrelevant to a "happy" post and it really ruined part of our experience that day and made us think. However, after seeing this other headline on CNN tonight...I am posting. At the Memphis Zoo you can look into the polar bear habitat or you can go under and look at them swimming in the water and what not. These are gigantic creatures. I would have snapped some of the one swimming in the water, but was digusted at the moment. Its paws were bigger than my upper torso I swear. Absolutely massive paws, (not my upper torso). We watched them for a while up top. There were two. One was swimming and one was putting on a show we thought. He would get up on the rocks as in the picture and then jump down into the water. At the time we started looking at them we didnt realize there was a walkway under. When he jumped in we heard a thud and honestly didnt think anything about it. The splash was massive and he looked as if he was having fun. However, when we did the walk under we realized what was going on. There was a woman with a zebra striped with pink highlights (crazy, i know) purse that was holding it up just above the water level and running across the window with it. The polar bear was presumably attacking it. The thud, was a very loud thunderous bang in this area and it was the polar bears nose against the wall. I know that we watched him jump 4 or 5 times from the top and then the once that he did it down below. We are talking about a crowd of about 50 people wanting her to "do it again". It was sad and pitiful. That was the end of the show for us. Even Dekan said ouch mommy that must have hurt. A 3-year-old has more sense than some. I dont know my true feelings of keeping animals in captivity for us to see, but I do know that they are there for me to learn and watch and be amazed by and not to taunt by pecking on the glass or yelling at or hoping that they will crash their 1100 pounds into a wall. He was hitting that with his nose. Can you imagine what his head felt like after once or twice of this? OUCH wasnt the word for it I am sure. or even his neck....at some point his bones were taking that impact. People never cease to amaze me. So sad that some found this as amusing. So I share that, to share this....
CNN headline
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/04/11/polar.bear.attack/index.html?eref=rss_topstoriesPolar bear attacks woman at Berlin Zoo. (Amazing, someone stopped to take pictures..... go figure)
What was she doing to deserve this you ask? Let me fill you in.... DIRECT QUOTE FROM CNN
"A polar bear attacked a woman at Berlin Zoo Friday afternoon after she climbed a fence and jumped into its habitat during feeding time, police said Saturday."
I think more accurately stated it should have read.
"A woman attacked a polar bear at Berlin Zoo Friday afternoon after she climbed a fence and jumped into ITS habitat during feeding time, police said Saturday."
At what point did the polar bear say come here so I can harm you, you crazy person you!?! Lay off the drugs lady. How was she planning this out in her head I wonder? to be a cordial affair? He needed a friend? Maybe the bear thought she was a big piece of chicken!? Was she wanting to snuggle? She is truly lucky to be alive and from her experience maybe now I will not go and jump into a polar bears habitat. Thank you for teaching me this valuable lesson. Oh and not to mention now that I have shared this with you all it hopefully saved your lives as well....pass it on.
